Deacon VicWe all have a hunger for God and goodness and Jesus teaches us that in order to attain friendship with God, we must be disciplined and must give up the things that keep us from satisfying the desire for God. Jesus rejects the false security of wealth for the true security of trusting God, who offers salvation as a gift. . We cannot earn our own salvation, we can only cooperate with God’s gift of grace, because in the end, we’re just passing through here anyway on our way to eternal life and all the stuff in the world is not going to change that. There is a story about a Polish Rabbi named Hafez Hayyim. In the 19th century, a tourist from the United States visited the famous Rabbi. He was astonished to see that the Rabbi’s home was only a simple room filled with books. The only furniture in the rooms was a table and a bench. “Rabbi, where is your furniture?” asked the tourist. “Where is yours? Replied the Rabbi? “Mine?
