We all have a hunger for God and goodness and Jesus teaches us that in order to attain friendship with God, we must be disciplined and must give up the things that keep us from satisfying the desire for God. Jesus rejects the false security of wealth for the true security of trusting God, who offers salvation as a gift. . We cannot earn our own salvation, we can only cooperate with God’s gift of grace, because in the end, we’re just passing through here anyway on our way to eternal life and all the stuff in the world is not going to change that. There is a story about a Polish Rabbi named Hafez Hayyim. In the 19th century, a tourist from the United States visited the famous Rabbi.
