Daybreak Center

Daybreak Center is a homeless shelter operated by the Diocese of Joliet.  Daybreak provides emergency housing and supportive services to homeless individuals and families. Some participants in the program need short-term housing as a result of a situational crisis.  Others need support services as they work to reestablish permanent housing.

How we support Daybreak...

...by Preparing a monthly meal

St. Francis Xavier parishioners volunteer to prepare a monthly supper at Daybreak.  We do this on the 4th Friday of each month.

We typically prepare a pasta dinner which includes:

  • Lasagna or other pasta dish
  • Salad
  • Bread
  • Dessert
  • Milk
  • Juice

Volunteers sign up to prepare one of the above items and then deliver it to the Church parking lot by 5:00pm on the 4th Friday of the month.  The food will then be delivered and served to Daybreak Center.

...by Providing items in need

Daybreak has routine items that are always in demand.  Our parish members provide for these items.

There are a few ways you can do this:

  1. Review Daybreak’s Amazon Wishlist and have items shipped directly to the shelter by Amazon.
  2. Purchase items and drop them off at the church.  One of our parishioners or staff will then make sure they are delivered to the shelter.
  3. Purchase items and deliver them directly to the shelter.  The shelter is located at 611 E. Cass St. in Joliet.

Items which are typically in need include:

  • Coffee and coffee creamer
  • Pancake mix and syrup
  • Salad Dressings
  • Snacks for lunch bags
  • Crackers
  • Fresh Produce
  • Socks, Underwear
